Day One: Broome to Barn Hill Station- 132kms

Day One and we are off like Flynn. 20 riders & 5 support crew which should read 4:1 but it is really 10:1 as Collis & I are really the only ones responsible for the care of these cyclists, the others are just generous souls who like to help where possible.
We are away by 7.17 am and the first casualty occurs 2 minutes later when Richard runs into the photographer (yours truly) but causes no damage & luckily I didn’t knock him off his bike. Some weren't as worried as others about riding with the group.

We didn’t get far; just as far as morning tea when we had our first bike problem- Martin had broken a spoke. All I can say is thank god for Richard who fixed it for us but now the group has split up by quite a bit of time.

By the time we arrive at the lunch stop the location has been moved by Robert and some of the riders are starting to struggle as it was 5kms further than the original message. Those 5 kms make a big difference when you are riding in 30 odd degrees heat and not really used to these distances.
Everybody arrived safely for the first night at Barn Hill Station except for the occasional prickle when they sat on a prickly bush.

This accommodation was lovely except Collis, Anna & Norm had to cart all the riders in & out of a 8 km dirt driveway which took quite a while.

Gayle & I made a spaghetti bolognaise but not enough for second helpings (so next meal we will have to cater for more).

Not sure where Gayle got to when it came time to dish up to the hungry hoards. Maybe still trying to put her tent up (She should have practiced before we left home).
