Day 16 Carnarvon to Wooramel 119 kms

We've had a really lovely stay here at Carnarvon especially considering that we all wanted to stay at Coral Bay for another night and weren't looking forward to moving on- this place was just perfect. It is always hard to get going after a rest day but the sun is rising a little later each morning so the riders are leaving a little later each day as well.

The scenery out of Carnarvon was pretty bland today and didn't change very much. We did follow a 25 km red sand dune for alot of the day. The flies were disgusting and caused us to cut the breaks very short as every time you stood still they were invading every exposed orifice available. The fly nets came out for nearly everyone and have become quite a fashion accessory in camp.

Once again we arrive at the booked roadhouse to be told that we had no booking- I don't know how these businesses keep going as I witnessed Collis ringing each and every booking to confirm the booking and numbers of cyclists. Anyway, she was able to accomodate us. The roadhouse looked ordinary but tidy and clean. The showers & the camp kitchen were a very pleasant surprise- both spotless & the manageress even popped in the toilets after we went to bed to clean them again before the morning.

Where to now Pierre?

She's not going to share it with you Norm so give her some peace.

Poetry time

It was fly heaven which drove us crazy in the evening when attempting to eat our dinners. The roadhouse closed at 5.30 pm and if you wanted to sit down to eat you had to order by 4.30 pm otherwise you had to eat in  the camp (with the flies). Woody was determined he was not going to move until he had finished his dinner in his own time but the manageress won out and he was out of the roadhouse by 5.30 pm. The meals were pretty good though with the best hamburger around for $6.50 a pop. It is amazing how excited we get over some food & a cold drink.

We all sat around for awhile tonight and once again we were entertained by John & Theo with their poems- both very good. I will publish them when I can get hold of them. Jerry told us a little joke based around Woody (or a very similar American).
