Day 18-Hamlin Pool to Denham 105 kms

Everyone enjoyed the riding today as the scenery was spectacular. The road was very undulating with lots of hills but some great valleys also. The road had narrowed some and the traffic has picked up leading into the weekend. More care was needed especially when 2 cars were passing in the opposite directions as this left little room for the cyclists. At nearly every hill and turn of the road there was a view of the Indian Ocean shimmering azure blue in the cloudless sky with the waves way out from shore crashing against the reef.

Arrived at Caravan park which was practically sitting on the beach and our allocated camp area was 200 metres from the waters edge-just perfect!! Collis & I got into camp earlier than usual and got a pick of the choice camp sites- nice change as we usually got just what space was left. It was early afternoon when we all arrived so everyone had time to explore the best eating spots, swimming spots and the best shops as well as shower & do some laundry before heading off for dinner.

Denham was holding their fish fiesta week so most of us went to a fish BBQ which provided a fish & prawn dinner for $12.50 a person. We took over 2 tables and Norm & Sheila provided us with some jiving demonstration after Collis requested. John & Pat provided air piano entertainment for everyone as well and the group playing asked us not to leave as we were such a good audience. Tina, Mark & Melanie looked like they wished they were somewhere else & Tina stated she felt she was out with her parents. A good night was had by all and a few videos of the night might just make their way onto u-tube.
Today we stopped at Shell Beach for morning tea which can be seen through the eyes of Pierre, our mascot, who joined us at Carnarvon and has been hogging some of the photographs.
